“I feel very proud to represent the Spanish Society for Laboratory Animal Sciences,” said Blanco, “which has more than 400 professionals and whose main objective is the rationalisation of the use of laboratory animals in research.” With this mandate, effective as of the end of 2019, the goal of Blanco will be “to promote training and communication, which are essential in our Society.”

Isabel Blanco has been in charge of animal health and well-being of the CNIO’s Animal Facility since 2006. She was for 5 years in charge of animal health and welfare (Biosafety Level 3) at the Spanish Animal Health Research Centre and Vivotecnia Research. From 2003 to 2005, she studied her Master’s degree in Laboratory Animal Science and Welfare (FELASA Category D programme) in Barcelona. In 2006, she was director of the Animal Facilities Unit at Charles River Laboratories.

She is a member of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS), the Institutional Research Ethics and Animal Welfare Committee (IREAWC) and the Ethics Committee for Animal Care of the Spanish National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA).
