The genomics service of FIMIM, MARGenomics, has recently incorporated the Applied Biosystems GeneChip 3000 Dx v2, a cutting-edge microarray platform funded by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) and the European Union's NextGenerationEU program. The GeneChip 3000 Dx v2 system holds the distinction of being the first microarray platform in Europe and the United States with regulatory authorization for diagnostic use, thanks to its IVD-R (In Vitro Diagnosis Regulation) certification.

This significant development has enabled us to enhance our microarray services by introducing a platform specifically designed for diagnostic purposes, while continuing to offer our traditional gene expression microarray services for experimental research.

The platform offers a range of capabilities, including:

1) Genomic microarrays: By generating a virtual karyotype, they enable the study of changes in the copy number variation (CNV) of all chromosomes simultaneously, as well as the loss of heterozygosity (LOH); in other words, determining whether the two copies of each chromosome are identical or not. This technique can be applied in both diagnostic and research settings, even for samples with compromised integrity such as paraffin-embedded tissues. In the diagnostic field, it is utilized to identify potential genetic causes of developmental delay, intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, or congenital anomalies, among other phenotypes.

2) Expression microarrays: The platform also facilitates the study of gene expression in all genes, not only in humans but also in various other species like mice, rats, goats, and even certain plant species.

For data analysis, two free software options are provided by Thermofisher: the Chromosome Analysis Suite for genomic microarrays and the Transcription Analysis Console for expression microarrays. However, MARGenomics offers an integrated service that encompasses everything from sample processing to data analysis and result interpretation.
