Telstar expands the process laboratory service for freeze-drying and sterilization by incorporating cold sterilization methods for non-compatible medical and pharmaceutical products with conventional high-temperature sterilization

Telstar process laboratory has included the services of cold sterilization for the life sciences and health industries using hydrogen peroxide (IonHP+) and ethylene oxide. Cold sterilization and/or bio-decontamination is a growing process and technology for medical and pharmaceutical products that are not compatible with heat sterilization. After an implementation period, which began in 2020, the company has consolidated the new line of support in the field of cold sterilization in the following processes:

- Development of a bio-decontamination cycle using Telstar's ionHp+ system with the specific charge provided by the client.

- Individual ionHP+ cycles for the study of penetrability and compatibility of customer’s materials.

- Chemical, morphological, and structural analysis of materials treated by cold bio- decontamination processes, such as hydrogen peroxide or ethylene oxide.

- Consultancy and trainings on the process and technology of ionHP+ and ethylene oxide.

With more than 18 years of experience and more than 250 clients, Telstar's process laboratory provides companies with extra support in developing recipes and studying the product in both freeze-drying and sterilization processes. For freeze-drying processes, the company offers a solid portfolio of services in the field of thermal study of the client's product (Differential scanning calorimetry-DSC and cryogenic microscope-FDM); development and/or optimization of a lyophilization recipe, including a study of residual moisture, reconstitution time, cosmetics, and cycle duration; and consultancy and training on the freeze-drying process.

In the field of sterilization, the process laboratory boasts an autoclave that allows sterilization by dry steam, steam-air mixture, and superheated water, thus allowing the development of different recipes that guarantee the integrity of the container and the identification of the optimal conditions of sterilization for the product avoiding its possible degradation, in addition of being completed with consultancy and training services.
