The improved S. PneumoStrip kit is the only test that allows the easy, quick and single identification of 76 different serotypes of S. pneumoniae in DNA samples, extracted from bacterial culture. Among the known serotypes are the 23 included in the most common vaccines available. The 76 detected serotypes are:
Strip A: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 6C, 6D, 7F/7A, 9A/9V, 14, 18A, 18B/18C, 18F, 19A, 19F, 23A, 23B, 23 F.
Strip B: 2, 8, 9N/9L, 10A, 10B, 10F/C, 11A/D, 11B, 11C, 11F, 12A/46, 12B/44, 12F, 15B/15C, 17F, 20, 22F/22A, 33F/33A, 37.
Strip C: 7B, 7C/40, 15A, 15F, 16F, 19B/19C, 21, 25A/25F, 38, 24A, 24B/24F, 31, 32A/32F, 33B/33D, 33C, 35A, 35C, 35F, 47F, 41A, 41F.
The serotyping of S. pneumoniae is important from a clinical and an epidemiological point of view, but the current Gold Standard technique (Quellung) is a complex, long and laborious method that requires trained stuff, and its use is therefore restricted to qualified laboratories.
This improved test S. Pneumostrip allows detection of the different serotypes quickly, easily and reliably, without having to depend on specialized centers. The improvements of the tests allows for the detection of 93,3% of the serotypes present in the studies performed. Thus, serotyping becomes accessible for both diagnostic centers in hospitals and laboratories, as well as vaccine manufacturers who wish to study prevalence.
Just like all our products from the Opegen line based on reverse hybridization, S. Pneumostrip test can be performed both manually or automatically, and the kit includes all necessary reagents and internal controls ready for use.
