The project's main objectives are, on the one hand, to achieve more efficient and profitable Biobanks, and on the other, to position them as a key element in research within personalised medicine.

Within the scope of the project, an automation tool will be developed to encode medical texts in SNOMED-CT, an interface (API) to facilitate the management and exchange of Biobank data, and mobile applications to allow the collection and visualisation of standardised data. All of them will be integrated into a commercial platform called SmartBIMS that will respond to the current needs of the technology market.

SMARTBIMS is a collaborative project started on October 1, 2020 in which participate the Spanish companies NorayBio and Ibermática, and the Swedish VizzDAT company and Karolinska Institutet. The project counts with the co-financing of the CDTI for the Spanish partners, the co-financing of VINNOVA for the Swedish partners, and the European Union contribution to the Eurostars-2 joint program, co-financed by the European Union Research and Innovation Framework Program, Horizon 2020.
