The UJI and the Diagrama Foundation will collaborate to prevent sexual assaults by minors

The rector of the Universitat Jaume I, Eva Alcón, and Pablo Mezquita, territorial director of Centres and Programmes of the Diagrama Foundation in the Valencian Community, today signed a collaboration agreement to advance research into the treatment of minors who have committed sexual aggressions. The vice-rector for Research and Transfer, Jesús Lancis, and the dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and researcher responsible for the agreement, Rafael Ballester, were present at the signing.

Within the framework of this agreement, the Sexuality and AIDS Research Unit (Salusex-Unisexsida) of the UJI and the Diagrama Foundation will carry out a scientific validation of the programme for the treatment of minor sexual aggressors currently being developed by the foundation. Thus, the two entities will work to jointly develop a series of evaluation, treatment and prevention tools in the area of sexuality, initially in the context of minors with judicial measures for sexual assault offences, as well as the training of professionals and the development of research and publications derived from these projects.

Pablo Mezquita pointed out that the collaboration will extend both to the training of professionals and to the development of research that will allow "the best intervention in these minors". In this sense, he has emphasised the importance of this type of initiatives to prevent this type of aggression.

On her behalf, he rector has also highlighted the importance of preventive initiatives against this problem and has indicated that "this type of projects are an example of knowledge transfer, since the research carried out can be applied to improve our society".
