The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT Health) has selected three projects from the University of Barcelona to be funded through grants for innovative projects and business ideas in the field of health sciences.

Two projects from the UB will receive a grant of € 25,000 each within the framework of the PoC call for projects in stages prior to the creation of a company. Namely, the project led by Dr. Rabanal, which focuses on the need to develop new polymyxin-based antibiotics to combat multi-resistant bacteria, and sEHIAP, a project based on the use of soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) inhibitors against acute pancreatitis. Moreover, the project 'A world first stem cell technology to treat lung disease', by Dr. Ana Belen Álvarez and Dr. Michael Eder, will receive € 12,500 euros in the PoC PLUS category, aimed at projects involved in accelerated health programmes. This research focuses on a new method to develop pluripotent stem cells from skin cells from the same patient for use in regenerative therapies.

EIT Health is a consortium of more than 50 core partners and 90 associate partners that aims to increase competitiveness in the European healthcare industry. The University of Barcelona and the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation, which has supported researchers in presenting their applications, are among the members of this consortium, formed by 14 European countries.
