Pilar Mateo: 'We will not exterminate diseases if we don't deal with people's problems'

Pilar Mateo, doctor in Chemistry and president of Inesfly Corporation, stated at the Universitat Jaume I that "We will not exterminate diseases if we don't deal with people's problems" because, from her point of view, we must undertake an overall performance that focuses on the situation of people who suffer some diseases like zika, dengue, malaria, leishmaniasis or chikungunya and not address only the treatment of these diseases.

Pilar Mateo delivered the closing lecture "Chagas, the disease of the silenced" in the practical summer course "Medicine and laboratory: needs and knowledge", which has been developed at the Universitat Jaume I. During her lecture, Dr. Mateo explained her beginnings in pest control and how her investigations have led to specialization in any insects that spread diseases.
