Dr. Reventós and Matias-Guiu, who presented the initial objectives of the project in 2011, returning to the University of Lleida in the hands of the Spanish Association Against Cancer for the work done since its inception visible. In recent years the groups participating in the aid granted by the AECC, have established themselves as world leaders in endometrial cancer to be able to improve the diagnosis and classification of these tumors, to identify the mechanisms of invasion and metastasis They use endometrial tumor cells as well as new biomarkers to establish the subgroup of patients at risk of recurrence and the mechanisms involved in resistance to radiotherapy are, and thus assess the potential usefulness of new drugs that target specific abnormalities own tumor. This results are achieved at all stages of the progression of endometrial cancer and useful in the diagnosis and treatment of patients already benefiting from the many successes of this project.
This project is coordinated collaboration of five research groups: the Vall d'Hebron Hospital of Santiago de Compostela, MDAnderson Madrid, Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona, and IRBLleida Hospital. The groups are perfectly matched, both have even created a consortium, GEICEN, serving stands Stable Endometrial Cancer Research Group, have also been able to develop a website to more efficiently transmit data from their investigation.
Endometrial cancer (EC) is the most common female genital tract in developed countries malignancy. Its annual incidence is about 10 to 20 cases per 100,000 women and risk of developing over the life of 2% -3%. Approximately 75% of CE diagnosed early when the tumor is still in the womb and in these cases, the prognosis is good because the surgery is curative.
