CiQUS has the largest number of beneficiaries of the European Research Council (ERC) among the Centres of the Galician University System (SUG). The scientists who have received ERC funding to develop their research projects are José Luis Mascareñas, Martín Fañanás, Francisco Rivadulla, Javier Montenegro, María Giménez, Beatriz Pelaz and Diego Peña. In this way, CiQUS emphasises its position in Europe and its potential for recruiting talent.

A total of ten projects representing approximately 14 million euros raised through this program. Those projects have enabled CiQUS to cover the entire spectrum of ERC grants: Advanced Grants, Consolidator Grants, Starting Grants, Proof of Concept y Synergy Grants. In addition, eight of the ERC projects were obtained during the last four years, endorsing the centre´s international reputation.

CiQUS researchers who have obtained ERC grants conform a new generation of scientists who are committed to developing their scientific careers in Galicia. The researchers attended today with the other ERC beneficiaries of Galicia, in the I Oportunius Meeting organized by the GAIN. The program is an effort of the Xunta de Galicia, in collaboration with the SUG, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and other regional research bodies to retain, return and attract research talent to Galicia.

About ERC

the European Research Council seeks to fund the long-term research of excellent researchers and their teams. The recruitment process is extremely competitive and selective, with a success rate of less than 10%. ERC offers three calls for different stages of the scientific career (Advanced, Consolidator o Starting Grants), one specific for technology transfer (Proof of Concept) and another for collaborative projects (Synergy Grants).
