The objective of the Pro-Enrich project is to develop biorefineries able to process a range of agriculturally derived by-products (rapeseed, olive, tomato and citrus meal) to obtain functional proteins and bioactive ingredients, adapted to the industry’s needs.

Existing biomass fractioning technologies will be optimised and new extraction strategies will be validated, with the aim of isolating and purifying the target compounds. The desired products are those that can be used in the animal feed, cosmetics, food and adhesive sectors.

Pro-Enrich brings together the know-how of the project’s 16 partners, from 7 different countries, whose proven experience covers every step of the value chain, from production and logistics of the biomass to processing the by-products and formulating the final compound. The project seeks to cooperate with and involve all parties interested in the agri-food industry.

The project’s overall objective is to have a large economic and social impact on the by-product valorisation industry in Europe, in line with the European Union and the BBI’s strategy for processing by-products of the agri-food sector, to generate zero waste in the European agri-food industry.

The Pro-Enrich project is financed through the H2020-BBI-JTI-2017 call, in accordance with grant 792050. For more information on the project, visit the website: https://www.pro-enrich.eu/
