The Catalan strategy on health in the “Horizon Europe” program

Among the topics discussed, it is worth noting that Horizon Europe will not be an exclusive tool, but that other initiatives and actions will be needed in a synergistic way to achieve a greater impact. In addition, it was highlighted that the relevant aspects in the field of Health for Horizon Europe should be personalized medicine, patient empowerment, access to health for all, non-invasive technologies and place the emphasis on the needs of people, avoiding the technological gap between citizenship and health.

Horizon Europe is an ambitious research and innovation program proposal launched by the European Commission for the next 2021-2027 that will succeed Horizon 2020. This new European initiative has a budget of €100 billion. Its aim is to strengthen the EU’s scientific and technological bases to boost Europe’s innovation capacity, competitiveness and jobs to deliver on citizens’ priorities and sustain our socioeconomic model and values. Horizon Europe will incorporate a mission-oriented research approach that guarantees the effectiveness of research and innovation financing by pursuing objectives that are clearly relevant to citizens.

The meetings were arranged with the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (RTD) Health Directorate, the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (RTD) of the Industrial Technologies, the Directorate‑General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology Digital Excellence & Science Infraestructure Directorate (DG-CONNECT), the Spanish Office of Science and Technology and the delegation of the Catalan Govern.
