For the third year in a row, the Leo Messi Foundation has renewed its collaboration with the Translational Research in Child and Adolescent Cancer group of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) to develop activities for data base maintenance as support in the coordination of clinical trials that are carried out in the Paediatric Oncology and Haematology Department of Vall d’Hebron. During the 2018 year, they made 16 clinical trials and 44 more assets were counted until December

The commitment of the Leo Messi Foundation with Vall d'Hebron began in 2011 with the creation of a playground located in Messi’s Square, in front of the Hospital Infantil Vall d'Hebron and with the signing of an agreement, with other Catalan hospitals, to establish a training program that allows argentine specialists to come to Catalonia to train in paediatric oncology and haematology among other paediatric specialties.

In 2015, it financed the construction of Espai Barça, a playground for improving the stay and recovery of children and adolescents admitted to the hospital. and in 2016, the agreement that has now been renewed is established for the first time, for the incorporation of a data manager in order to optimize the management of all patient data that must be included in a clinical trial: how they are, background, what is their response to treatment, etc.
