Three scientists from IRB Barcelona have been awarded "To the Mothers of Science" fellowships from the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST). This grant initiative seeks to recognise the cutting-edge research conducted by women, particularly those who are also mothers, in the seven centres that comprise BIST.

In this first call, of the 19 candidates, 12 have been awarded fellowships. Among the awardees are three IRB Barcelona scientists: Guiomar Solanas, research associate with the Stem Cells and Cancer Lab, who focuses on stem cell research and its relation to the circadian rhythm and aging; Jelena Urosevic, postdoctoral researcher with the Growth Control and Cancer Lab, whose research addresses the mechanisms of metastasis in colon cancer; and Lidia Mateo, a PhD student with the Structural Bioinformatics and Network Biology Lab, that focuses her research on the development of predictive models to evaluate drug response in personalized cancer medicine.

To the Mothers of Science

"To the Mothers of Science" is a fellowship programme that was launched on 11 February this year to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The initiative seeks to acknowledge excellence in research and support women scientists in their professional transition to leadership positions.

The 19 applicants will have the opportunity to participate in a coaching programme run by Victoria Conesa and the 12 awardees will also receive a monthly stipend of € 400 for a maximum of one year.
