Mind the Byte is partnering with Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) to work on the characterization and binding analysis of an immunostimulant agent. This is known to trigger T-cell activation, which is crucial for the initiation and regulation of the immune response.

IGTP has a large experience in immunopathology. One of their current projects led by Dr. José Domínguez and Dr. Irene Latorre, from the Innovation in Respiratory Infections and Tuberculosis Diagnosis research group, consists of determining the potential relationship between a certain immunostimulant and the T-cell receptor. Although there is experimental evidence of such interaction, the mechanism of action continues to remain unknown.

To address this question, Mind the Byte will computationally explore the interaction, which will allow the researchers to further the development and understanding of the activation process.

The combination of the different methodologies developed by Mind the Byte will be crucial to investigate the binding between the two molecules. Concretely a deeper knowledge about the binding region, the key residues for the binding as well its strength will be predicted. This information can be then used to identify new epitopes as well as to improve the current candidate molecule to better optimize the T-cell activation.

In the end, the different bioinformatics tools used by Mind the Byte will allow the project of IGTP to obtain accurate results faster. Because of the acquisition of both the structure and data of the interaction with a T-cell receptor from Mind the Byte, IGTP will be able to continue research on immunostimulant agents. Together, knowledge on this immunostimulant is being enhanced which will enable discoveries for better immunodiagnosis of the infections.
