The SICC Innvierte fund of CDTI Innovación invests in InceptionBio, a fund aimed at promoting the creation of biotechnology companies and the development of early-stage technology transfer projects.
With this investment, CDTI Innovación reaffirms its commitment to accelerating technology transfer, fostering the creation of new technology-based companies with high growth potential, and strengthening the competitiveness of the Spanish R&D system.
INCEPTIONBIO INNVIERTE, FCRE (InceptionBio) is a new fund launched by Ysios Capital, a leading European life sciences venture capital manager, to support the creation of biotech companies and the development of early-stage projects.
The first close took place last March and included the participation of CDTI Innovación, through Innvierte, with a commitment of €70.56 million.
InceptionBio will focus on identifying, developing, and building new companies based on excellent science, with a special emphasis on Spain. The fund will primarily invest in technology transfer projects and early-stage companies, with the aim of accelerating technology transfer by working closely with universities, research centers, and entrepreneurs to transform scientific discoveries into new therapies with patient impact.
InceptionBio’s strategy combines the creation of new companies from scientific assets developed in universities and research centers with the identification and attraction of international assets with potential to be developed from Spain through the creation of new companies. In this way, it seeks to actively contribute to strengthening the national ecosystem and positioning Spain as a reference biotech hub.
The fund already has a pipeline of investment opportunities in an advanced stage of analysis. As part of its deployment plan, InceptionBio aims to establish at least three new biotech companies throughout 2026.
The support of CDTI Innovación, through Innvierte, reinforces public-private collaboration in a key area for the development of the Spanish biotech ecosystem and will help accelerate technology transfer, foster the creation of new high-growth technology-based companies, and strengthen the competitiveness of the Spanish R&D system.
