The Pectus Up already a reality in the Mexican Social Security System

A new surgery sets a precedent for the treatment of Pectus Excavatum in Mexico, with the introduction of the Pectus Up into the largest social health system in the country.

On April 14, Dr. Izchel Valdez performed a surgical correction of a Pectus Excavatum with the Pectus Up implant, developed by Ventura Medical Technologies, at the Hospital de Pediatría del Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XII.

Dr. Valdez is a pediatric thoracic surgeon that was trained in the Pectus Up technique at the end of last year by the professionals of Ventura Medical Technologies and Dr. Daniel Munguía Canales, a prestigious surgeon in the Mexican community, with an extensive experience in the implantation of the Pectus Up.

The patient, a 15-year-old male, had a slightly asymmetric Pectus Excavatum with a Haller index of 4.40. He was beginning to have scoliosis and a mild deviation of the spine.

During the surgery, the doctor counted on the presence and support of Dr. Munguía and Dr. Ricardo Villalpando, renowned thoracic surgeon in pediatrics and former president of the Consejo Nacional de Cirugía del Tórax, a non-profit organization dedicated for more than 40 years to certify the skills of specialists dedicated to thoracic surgery.The group was completed by an excellent team of nurses, surgeons and anesthesiologists.

The result of the surgery was fully satisfactory for both the patient and the surgeons, who have marked a turning point in the Pectus Up, since this is the first time that it is used in the IMSS, the institution with the greatest presence in social and health protection in Mexico, since its founding in 1943.

The Pectus Up technique, faster, easier and with less risk than other procedures, takes a step forward in its consolidation in Mexico with its introduction in the IMSS.
