More than two hundred lectures in six plenary conferences, apart from symposiums and oral presentations and poster presentations, make up the scientific program of the 37th National Meeting of the Spanish Society of Pharmacology (SEF), a science summit with the participation of international experts of the field, to be held from the 18th to the 21st of June in Hotel Alimara in Barcelona.

The new edition of the conference of SEF will be opened next Sunday, June 18 2017, at 17.30 h, in an institutional event chaired by the rector of the UB, Joan Elias, and the rector of the UAB, Margarita Arboix. The opening ceremony will count with the participation of the president of SEF, María Jesús Sainz, and the presidents of the organizing committee of the conference, formed by Francisco Ciruela, lecturer from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona and head of the Neuropharmacology and Pain Research Group of the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL); Elisabet Vila, from the Institute of Neurosciences of the UAB, and Josep Eladi Baños, from the Faculty of Biology of UPF.

New targets for oncological diseases, innovative therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative diseases, and educational innovation in pharmacology teaching are some of the topics to be treated by the experts from the 18th to the 21st of June in Barcelona. According to Ciruela, who is also member of the Institute of Neurosciences of the University of Barcelona, “the conference will become another platform for worldwide experts of pharmacology to exhibit and debate on the most recent advances in the different fields of pharmacological research, a science with a strong interdisciplinary character”. This year, the prestigious British Pharmacological Society (BPS), founded in 1931 in Oxford, will be the invited entity to this international forum on pharmacology.

The new edition of the SEF conference –a place focused on the youngest talent- aims to put emphasis on the new researchers and offer them the possibility to contact different international prestigious experts. The scientific program includes plenary sessions, symposiums, oral presentations and posters on the different fields of pharmacology with the greatest international outreach.

The plenary sessions will count with the participation of the experts Manel Esteller, lecturer of Genetics at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the UB and ICREA researcher in IDIBELL, Rafael Maldonado (UPF), Paul Insel (University of California – San Diego, USA), Antonio Ferrer-Montiel (University Miguel Hernández), Mabel Loza (University of Santiago de Compostela) and Agneta Nordberg (Karolinska Institute, Sweden). Regarding the symposiums, the experts of the UB Sílvia Sànchez and Salvador Cañigueral will take part in them, as well as Leonardo Pardo and Magí Farré (UAB), Olga Valverde (UPF) and Josep Maria Piultas (IDIBELL), among others.
