Hospital Clínic has received 50,000 euros to be allocated to cancer research by Ms. Núria Klimek. Thanks to this donation, the IDIBAPS research team Translational Genomics and targeted therapies in solid tumors, led by Dr. Aleix Prat, Chief of the Oncology Department at Clínic, will be strengthen.
Ms. Klimek is visiting the Oncology Department, however, she is not currently receiving any chemotherapeutic treatment. There have been several cases of cancer in her family, and this fact has led her to want to invest the savings of a lifetime to study new treatments that benefit patients with this disease. She knows that the fruits of her money will help other patients, Ms. Klimek is pleased of being able to support children and youth: ”There are children growing up who are suffering a lot“, she says.
Research for patients
According to Dr. Prat, donations such as the one made by Ms. Klimek “are a great help to pull forward research projects that will help identify new cancer therapies“. Indeed, the research team led by Dr. Prat aims to develop new treatments for patients with solid tumors. To achieve this, they use genomic and molecular data that guide the design of clinical trials, develop biomarkers and study the molecular mechanisms of sensitivity and drug resistance.
