La ganadería es responsable del 18% de las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero en el mundo y rumiantes como vacas, ovejas y cabras generan un 35% de uno de esos gases, el metano, contribuyendo significativamente -según los expertos- al cambio climático.
Investigadores del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) han participado en un estudio que describe el mecanismo de acción de una molécula, 3-nitrooxypropanol, para inhibir la producción de metano en rumiantes. El trabajo se ha publicado en la revista Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
