EntreChem SL, a biotechnology company exploring new biocatalysis-based processes, has published in ACS Catal., the first organo-biocatalytic one-pot reaction of alcohols to chiral amines. The process involves oxidation of alcohols by an organocatalyst and bioamination of the transient ketone by a transaminase with excellent conversion, stereo- and enantioselectivity, under mild, eco-friendly conditions.

This work, from the EU Training Network BIOCASCADES, highlights the opportunities offered by a one-pot processes, with organocatalysts and biocatalyts working together as an efficient alternative to encapsulation or compartmentalization techniques often required for tandem or cascade reactions.
