The euCanSHare project, coordinated by Karim Lekadir from the SIMBIOsys research group, will develop the first centralised, secure and sustainable platform for enhanced cross-border data sharing and multi-study personalised medicine research in cardiology.

The project will start on 1st Decemebr 2018, with a duration of 4 years and a total funding of over 6 M€. euCanSHare will have its kick-off meeting in Brussels, at the European Society of Cardiology, on 11 December 2018.

The first centralised, secure and sustainable platform for enhanced cross-border data sharing and multi-study personalised medicine research in cardiology

Initially populated with 35 European and Canadian cohorts totalling over one million records, the platform will include extensive functionalities for data deposition, data harmonisation and data analysis. The features of the platform will be demonstrated and adjusted through several use cases, including for investigating diabetic cardiomyopathy, myocardial infarction and stroke using multi-factorial and multi-omics integrative approaches.

The data analysis module of the platform will offer tools for cardiac image segmentation, cardiac quantification, and data quality control, as well as bioinformatics and machine learning capabilities.

A project coordinated by the UPF

In this project, UPF will coordinate a highly experienced and multi-disciplinary consortium that includes 11 European research institutions, two European organisations, two European SMEs and three Canadian institutions. Among the research institutions, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG) are involved.
