Researchers of the University of Barcelona Ana Moragues and Claudia Rocío Magaña have presented the report Alimentando un futuro sostenible, which measures for the first time the levels of food insecurity in Spanish households before COVID-19 and during the pandemic. The study reveals the problem of food insecurity in Spain, the lack of access to a healthy and sustainable nutrition. Also, it supports the need to promote measures and policies focused on people and their dignity in order to build a fair society and ensure a liveable planet for the future generations.

The study, which counts on the support of Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, indicates that a 13.3% of the Spanish households does not have a consistent access to enough food in quality and quantity, so the normal growth and development of their members is not guaranteed. That is, those homes undergo food insecurity, which affects nearly 6,235.900 people in Spain.
