GENESIS Biomed sponsors, for the second consecutive year, the Healthcare Entrepreneurship Conference Day at Gregorio Marañón Health Research Institute

On 21^th September, the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón hosted the 2nd Healthcare Entrepreneurship Conference Day.

The event was organised by the UAI* (Innovation Support Unit) of the IiSGM (Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Gregorio Marañón) and was sponsored by GENESIS Biomed, HOFFMANN EITLE, and supported by the ITEMAS Platform and AseBio. Once again, the event has managed to bring together the main players in healthcare entrepreneurship in the national and regional scene in Madrid (investors, spin-offs, administration, etc.) with the aim of highlighting the entrepreneurship promotion activities carried out by Health Research Institutes.

The event was a great success in terms of attendance, both on-site and online. Through presentations and round tables, experiences were shared and the main challenges that healthcare spin-offs will have to face were highlighted.

The IiSGM’s commitment to entrepreneurship has led to the creation of four spin-off companies that are achieving important milestones in bringing innovative products to society. The involvement of the institute’s and the hospital’s management in the promotion of spin-offs has been key to deploying policies and initiatives aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial culture in the organisation.

According to Josep Lluis Falcó, CEO of GENESIS Biomed, “The organisation of this type of conference allows us to continue promoting the Hospital Innovation Support Units as an agent facilitating the transfer of know-how into real solutions for people’s health. The potential translation of the scientific excellence of our hospitals towards innovation will create an economic engine that will contribute to improving the rates of progress and health of our country”.

During the conference, Josep Lluís gave a talk entitled “Business management of early-stage projects in the biomedical sector. From transfer and creation to the closing of the first round”.

In this intervention, Josep Lluís Falcó showed the process of managing early-stage projects, starting with the negotiation with the institution, continuing with the constitution of the spin-off and ending with obtaining funding through investment vehicles such as GENESIS Tech Transfer Boost, which manages GENESIS Biomed, or other mechanisms that invest in very early-stage technologies.

The organisation of this 2nd Conference has demonstrated the interest in healthcare entrepreneurship in the clinical ecosystem and conferences of this type are essential to promote the transfer of innovation to the productive manufacturing, contributing to improving the health and quality of life of patients.
