Glycobasque 6, the 6th edition of the annual international glycoscience meeting, recently concluded with resounding success. This gathering brought together professionals, experts, and researchers from diverse glycoscience disciplines, spanning glycobiology, immunology, and carbohydrate chemistry.

The event, hosted by the Chemical Glycobiology group under Jesús Jiménez-Barbero, Ikerbasque Professor and Scientific Director of CIC bioGUNE – member of BRTA – and the Glycotechnology group under Niels Reichardt, from CIC biomaGUNE, took place at the auditorium of the Edificio Barco (Building 101) at the Bizkaia Technology Park in Zamudio on November 23rd to 24th.

Glycobasque 6 served as a dynamic platform for the exchange of cutting-edge insights, fostering collaboration and propelling the progression of knowledge within the ever-evolving field of glycoscience. Over 1.5 days, renowned experts in glycobiology, immunology, and carbohydrate chemistry delivered insightful seminars, shedding light on various aspects of glycoscience, including cancer glycobiology, glycan synthesis, immune therapy, glycoconjugate vaccine design, and the analysis of carbohydrate-protein interactions.

The meeting underscored the pivotal role of glycoscience in contemporary drug development, gene therapy, regenerative medicine, and disease diagnostics. Participants were enlightened about the immense opportunities that glycoscience presents for both basic and translational research. Seminars addressed crucial topics such as cancer glycobiology, glycan synthesis, immune therapy, glycoconjugate vaccine design, and the analysis of carbohydrate-protein interactions.

The organizers express their gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and collaborators who played a crucial role in the triumph of this significant international meeting.

About CIC bioGUNE

The Centre for Cooperative Research in Biosciences (CIC bioGUNE), member of the Basque Research & Technology Alliance (BRTA), located in the Bizkaia Technology Park, is a biomedical research organisation conducting cutting-edge research at the interface between structural, molecular and cell biology, with a particular focus on generating knowledge on the molecular bases of disease, for use in the development of new diagnostic methods and advanced therapies.

About Ikerbasque

Ikerbasque - Basque Foundation for Science - is the result of an initiative of the Department of Education of the Basque Government that aims to reinforce the commitment to scientific research by attracting, recovering and consolidating excellent researchers from all over the world. Currently, it is a consolidated organization that has 290 researchers/s, who develop their work in all fields of knowledge.

About CIC biomaGUNE

The Center for Cooperative Research in Biomaterials CIC biomaGUNE, member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA), conducts state-of-the-art research at the interface between Chemistry, Biology and Physics, devoting particular attention to studying the properties of biological nanostructures on a molecular scale and their biomedical applications.

About BRTA

BRTA is an alliance of 4 collaborative research centres (CIC bioGUNE, CIC nanoGUNE, CIC biomaGUNE y CIC energiGUNE) and 12 technology centres (Azterlan, Azti, Ceit, Cidetec, Gaiker, Ideko, Ikerlan, Lortek, Neiker, Tecnalia, Tekniker and Vicomtech) with the main objective of developing advanced technological solutions for the Basque corporate fabric.

With the support of the Basque Government, the SPRI Group and the Provincial Councils of the three territories, the alliance seeks to promote collaboration between the research centres, strengthen the conditions to generate and transfer knowledge to companies, contributing to their competitiveness and outspreading the Basque scientific-technological capacity abroad.

BRTA has a workforce of 3,500 professionals, executes 22% of the Basque Country's R&D investment, registers an annual turnover of more than 300 million euros and generates 100 European and international patents per year.
