Neurotechnology is revolutionizing the way we understand the brain and address various diseases. The combination of neuroscience, bioengineering, and advanced computing is already having an impact on health.
The SAMCA Chair of Technological Development and the Engineering Research Institute of Aragon (I3A), in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Zaragoza and the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Aragon (CEOE-Aragón), are organizing a new Technology and Business Forum that focuses on neurotechnology and its application to the health field . To this end, today, Thursday, April 3, a group of researchers will be gathered at the headquarters of CEOE Aragón, who will share their knowledge and work on home-use neurotechnology to treat Alzheimer's , emotional modulation of memory , measurement of high-frequency brain signals from muscles, and technologies based on neurophysiological signals.
The Technology and Business Forum will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the CEOE Aragón Auditorium (Calle Doctor Val-Carreres, 10) with the institutional ceremony. The following are expected to attend: Jesús Arnau , CEOE Aragón's general director; Narciso Samaniego , director of the competitiveness department at Cámara Zaragoza; Alfonso Ortega , director of the SAMCA Chair for Technological Development in Aragón; and Jesús Arauzo , director of I3A.
The conference by Javier Mínguez , scientific director and co-founder of Bitbrain, "Towards a home-use neurotechnology for treating Alzheimer's," will open this meeting.
The subsequent roundtable will feature Miguel Ángel Mañanas , professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and principal investigator of the BIOART group, specializing in biosignals and neuroengineering; Marta Suárez-Pinilla , researcher at the Laboratory for Clinical Neuroscience, focusing on clinical neuroscience and therapeutic applications of neurotechnology; and Jaime Ibáñez Pereda , researcher at the Aragon Engineering Research Institute (I3A) of the University of Zaragoza, expert in biomedical signal processing, movement neuroscience, and neurorehabilitation technologies.
Presentation of the Innovation Award
The presentation will continue with the 5th Multidisciplinary Innovation Award granted by the SAMCA Chair of Technological Development to the BONIFACE project , for its impact in transforming both the ceramics industry and the sustainable construction sector. A pioneer in the intersection of sustainable energy, materials innovation, and modern architecture, its development will pave the way for alliances between the ceramics industry, the construction sector, and technology companies in the photovoltaic and materials recycling sectors, which are very present in Aragon.
Likewise, a special mention was awarded to the project "DIVE: Diagnosing Pathologies Through Vision" in recognition of its excellence and relevance. This technology allows for comprehensive examination of visual function in non-cooperative patients as young as six months of age.
These awards will be presented by the director of the SAMCA Chair of Technological Development, Alfonso Ortega , and by the director of R&D&I of the SAMCA group, Miguel Ángel Caballero.
The coordinator of the winning project of the fourth edition of this award, Ignacio Álvarez Lanzarote, will also participate in this event and will discuss the progress of the PARAFree project . This work aims to inactivate Anisakis and Toxoplasma in fish and meat using a technology based on high-voltage electrical pulses that destroys these parasites in the food itself without affecting its quality or shelf life.
The Technology and Business Forum and the awards ceremony can also be followed online, through the I3A Unizar YouTube channel.
The Technology and Business Forum is a framework for direct dialogue and the exchange of knowledge and experiences among innovative researchers, technologists, and entrepreneurs in thematic areas related to biomedical engineering, industrial technologies, ICT, the circular economy, environmental sustainability, and business. We are committed to promoting and giving visibility to innovative projects, established initiatives, and new business and scientific lines.
The Multidisciplinary Innovation Award from the SAMCA Chair of Technological Development of Aragon recognizes collaboration and collaborative work across different areas of knowledge, bringing together the academic, research, and business worlds. This is the fourth edition and is endowed with a €5,000 grant, plus an additional €3,000 in the first year for its development.
