The research group TECE20-Rehabilita-T: Advances and innovation in rehabilitation and health promotion dThe Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA), has shown that The ActiveHip+ intervention is an effective option to complement traditional rehabilitation. With a mortality rate of 1 in 4 people in the year after a hip fracture, this intervention is presented as a viable solution to the scarcity of resources and the urgent need for effective recovery. This study is part of the project “Activating Older People After a Hip Fracture (ActiveHip+),” directed by Patrocinio Ariza Vega, researcher in the TECE20 group at ibs.GRANADA, occupational therapist at the Andalusian Health Service and professor at the University of Granada. This project aims implement and demonstrate the effectiveness of an educational and tele-rehabilitation program in the recovery of older people with hip fractures and their informal caregivers. The educational resources created are available openly on the website https://www.activehipplus.com.

This randomized clinical trial, in which 110 patients and their caregivers participated, has been carried out in three centers of the Andalusian Health Service: the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital in Granada, the Health Management Area of Jerez, the Northwest Coast and Sierra de Cádiz and the University Hospital of Puerto Real de Cádiz. The participants in the intervention group have received a health education program and a tele-rehabilitation program of occupational therapy and physical exercise for 12 weeks through the ActiveHip+ app. After these 12 weeks, ActiveHip+ has proven to be effective in improving key physical and psychological aspects for recovery such as the patient's physical condition and anxiety, also helping to reduce the overload of their caregivers.

Currently, the implementation of ActiveHip+ is being proposed in more than 15 hospitals in Spain, Belgium and Portugal where it has already been used by more than 250 patients and healthcare professionals.
