The Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute (I3PT) has obtained this November five competitive calls of the State Research Agency of Ministry of Science and Innovation for a value of 1.245.553 euros.

As underlined by the head of the entity's Projects Unit, Anna Aguilar, "these results are very positive for our research staff as it will allow them to develop projects with a great impact for our patients and the population in general".

Specifically, they have been granted two scholarships, of the three that were presented, in the framework of the "Call for strategic projects aimed at the ecological transition and the digital transition"

The digital transformation in the prevention and management of suicide risk in adult patients through the use of AI algorithms, trained through clinical evidence

Principal Investigator: Diego José Palao | €241.500

Goal: Design predictive models based on data that can predict the risk of suicide in adult patients under psychiatric treatment, by analyzing the relationship between suicidal attempts and/or ideas, as well as death by suicide, and clinical, biological factors and socio-demographic through Real World Data obtained from electronic health records.

Optimizing a clinical datalake by incorporating validated digital tools to improve high-precision phenotyping of complex diseases

Principal Investigator: Jordi Gratacós | €287.500

Objective: To optimize the existing digital infrastructure, the "on-premise datalake" of the I3PT, to enable the integration of clinical information from efficient artificial intelligence tools to improve the individual clinical phenotype. The project will focus on minority autoimmune diseases in adults. The use of machine learning algorithms in a clinical datalake will optimize the classification of these diseases. This technological implementation is essential to increase the probability of finding new predictive biomarkers to facilitate the evolution towards personalized medicine and the well-being of society.

Likewise, the I3PT has succeeded three scholarships, of the three presented, within the "Call for public-private collaboration projects"

The first device-Reader "point of care" that allows the immune system cells to be analyzed and processed (using "SeptiLoop" consumables); by detecting its response to bacteria it is able to diagnose sepsis in its earliest stage (SeptiBell)

Principal Investigator: Antonio Artigas €431.147

Objective: To develop and clinically validate a device that allows the identification of cases of sepsis using completely innovative technology and biomarkers that allow the identification of the presence of sepsis in very early stages of the disease and in a much faster way than current methods .

Multidisciplinary approach to the development of intelligence tools to improve the diagnosis and prognosis of osteoarthritis (OASIS)

Principal Investigator: Joan Calvet | €172.950

Objective: To develop an integrative platform based on artificial intelligence to comprehensively obtain a better diagnostic and prognostic approach in patients with osteoarthritis.

Workstation design to support decision-making in critically ill patients with invasive mechanical ventilation (WS-VENT)

Principal Investigator: Lluís Blanch | 112.456 €

Objective: To provide a Big Data visualization tool and machine learning models to exploit historical data already available and continuously generated in the ICU, to improve the speed of clinical decisions and support ICU professionals in the management of this demanding environment, and benefit critically ventilated patients with more precise monitoring and more accurate interventions.
