The Granada Biosanitary Research Institute (ibs.GRANADA) held the first international workshop of the European project on May 12 and 13 at the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital. GRACE (Generalized Health Data Integration for Active Cardiovascular Risk Assessment), an ambitious initiative funded by the call Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) The European Commission aims to transform the prevention and clinical management of cardiovascular diseases through the use of artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and advanced monitoring devices. The project brings together a multidisciplinary consortium of academic, hospital, technology, and industrial entities from across Europe.

El ibs.GRANADA as a research institute managed by FIBAO, Granada is an active member of the GRACE consortium, contributing its expertise in clinical and translational research, particularly in the field of cardiovascular diseases. This involvement strengthens Granada's role as a strategic hub for healthcare innovation at the European level.

The meeting brought together representatives of hospitals, research entities and technological partners, including leading companies such as Samsung y Medtronic, key players in the development of the project's digital solutions. The working sessions addressed topics related to the integration of clinical data, the design of pilot studies with patients, and the planning of clinical trials that will be launched in the coming months.

ibs.GRANADA, as the entity responsible for coordinating the project's clinical activities in Andalusia, leads the implementation of the hospital pilots and acts as a link between technological developments and their practical application in healthcare settings. The workshop has consolidated this coordination between clinical and technological teams, laying the groundwork for the future validation phase in patients.

El Dr. José Miguel Lozano, a cardiologist and principal investigator of the project at ibs.GRANADA, highlighted during the event the importance of “creating real synergies between medicine and technology to offer more personalized, predictive, and preventative care for highly prevalent conditions such as atrial fibrillation.”

The holding of this workshop in Granada reinforces the position of ibs.GRANADA, FIBAO, and the San Cecilio University Clinical Hospital as key players in attracting and developing high-impact European projects and demonstrates the Andalusian healthcare system's commitment to collaborative innovation for the benefit of patients.

About the ibs.GRANADA

The Instituto de Investigación Biosanitaria ibs.GRANADA, is the only center accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) that develops biomedical research of excellence in Granada and one of the four accredited in Andalusia by the ISCIII.

The ibs.GRANADA is structured in four Scientific Areas: Oncology, Precision Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health and Technology and Advanced Therapies that develop an intense research activity and lead the transfer of research results to society, which are reflected in the 1.063 publications made in scientific journals, totaling 5.650 impact factor points, as well as 25 patents applied for during 2024.

Currently, the Institute brings together more than 1.216 professionals and 73 multidisciplinary research groups that make up, from the University of Granada, the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, the Andalusian School of Public Health and Primary Care Centers in Granada.

The primary objectives of the ibs.GRANADA are to promote biomedical, clinical, and epidemiological research conducted by the various groups affiliated with the institute and to facilitate translational research in Granada hospitals. This research activity translates into the generation of knowledge and the transfer of scientific advances toward the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of priority health problems in Andalusia.
