On June 21 and 22, the ONCO Emergence Forum will be held in Barcelona. Biocat is co-hosting this networking congress to foster the creation of consortia that can enter bilateral and European Commission calls.

The ONCO Emergence Forum is geared towards researchers, postgraduate students, hospital staff, project managers, businesspeople and representatives from companies in the field of oncology, among others. All the activities are free of charge and the deadline for registration is June 11.

The congress will feature multidisciplinary plenary sessions and scientific sessions by speakers like Manel Esteller, director of the IDIBELL Cancer Epigenetics program; Joaquín Arribas, scientific director at the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO); Salvador Aznar, leader of the Stem Cells group at IRB Barcelona and recent recipient of an ERC Advanced Grant; Roger Gomis, leader of the Growth control and cancer metastasis group at IRB Barcelona; Roland Bugat, scientific coordinator of ONCONET SUDOE, Toulouse III Paul Sabatier University; José Manuel Nascimento, coordinator of the Medical Oncology Center at the University of Coimbra; and Laura Soucek, founder of Peptomyc.

Furthermore, to foster interaction among the various innovation stakeholders in oncology, the ONCO Emergence Forum will feature a call for science posters, brainstorming challenges and a tech transfer competition with a €1,500 prize.

May 13, deadline for posters and tech transfer proposals

The call for science posters aims to foster the exchange of knowledge among participants. The posters must describe studies or best practices in oncology research or clinical practice. The abstracts must be submitted by May 13.

The tech transfer competition will feature the top European entrepreneurs, TTO and principal researchers developing new technology from a research body that is prepared for out-licensing or has begun development through a spin-off. This session aims to foster alliances and collaborative projects between hospitals and academia with other interest groups. The deadline for proposals is May 13. Selected participants will give a 7-minute pitch on their innovative projects to an experienced panel of judges. The winning project will get €1,500, provided by Parque Tecnológico de la Salud.

The ONCO Emergence Forum, which will take place at Fira Gran Via de Barcelona, is part of the European Onconet Sudoe project, co-funded by the Interreg Sudoe program and of which Biocat is a member. It was created to establish a permanent network of excellence in oncology by mobilizing healthcare stakeholders in south-western Europe in prevention, diagnosis, care and translational research.
