Within the framework of the X Esteve Foundation Discussion Group, on February 13th and 14th the tenth meeting of the working group on new advances in the field of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR) was held at the University of Barcelona with the support of the Antoni Esteve Foundation.

The meeting discussed the new knowledge regarding G protein-coupled receptors and their use as a therapeutic target. 35% of the medications that can be found in the market are aimed at this family of membrane receptors. Specifically, recent advances in its structure and the ability to form oligomeric complexes were some of the topics of debate, especially in the context of pathologies such as Parkinson's disease or schizophrenia.

The meeting was co-organized by Dr. Francisco Ciruela, coordinator of the Neurobell program of IDIBELL, professor of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the UB and member of the Institute of Neurosciences of the UB, and by Dr. Sergi Ferré (NIDA, NI, Baltimore, USA) and Dr. Leonardo Pardo (Autonomous University of Barcelona). The meeting was attended by experts Dr. Carmen Dessauer (University of Texas, Houston, USA), Dr. Javier González-Maeso (Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, USA), Dr. Ralf Jockers (Cochin INSERM Institute. Paris, France), Dr. Diomedes Logothetis (Northeastern University, Boston, USA) and Dr. Terry Hébert (McGill University, Montreal, Canada).
