The 'Taby Diagnostics' (www.tabydiagnostics.com), led by Juan Francisco Delgado of Poza Patients immunologist, has been selected as a finalist of the "Cross-KIC EIT Business Idea Competition" to be held on 16 November in Budapest (www.eithealth.eu/-/eit-joint-grand-final-2018)

The EIT Cross-KIC Business Idea Competition is a program of the European mentoratge where through various "workshops" is intended to help the selected teams to prepare a business plan and a presentation aimed at investors. 'Taby Diagnostics' has been selected for the strength of their entrepreneurial idea, its impact on the industry and its growth potential. The finalists of this competition are eligible for a cash prize of € 10,000 to the project team and more appealing.

'Taby Diagnostics' is a project with aspirations of spin offs that arose from the need to increase the sensitivity of biomarkers present in different types of cancer. The technology it uses, and has been developed by Dr. Slim, allows to increase the immunogenicity of antigens associated with tumors and thus increase the sensitivity of immunoassays that detect and quantify antibodies against these biomarkers, making them useful for the clinical care of cancer.

So far, there has been a clinical study on 100 patients demonstrated that this technology is capable of doubling the sensitivity of the standard test for detecting antibodies against alpha-fetoprotein in hepatocellular carcinoma. Using this test will not only diagnose such patients early, but also monitor the effectiveness of different treatments of liver cancer.
